Monika Michelle

Writer Assistant

Monika Michelle is an attorney by profession, who now devotes her career to her passion- Storytelling. After graduating from Xavier University of Louisiana and Loyola University of New Orleans College of Law, Monika realized that her true passion was writing stories that had not yet been told.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you.”  Monika was living the reality of Ms. Maya Angelou’s words, but in 2018, she could stand the agony anymore. She wrote and produced her first play entitled, “Straddling.” Since then, Monika has written poetry, one-acts, screenplays, and short essays. In May 2021, Unworldly Ensemble Theater selected Monika Michelle's play, "A Conversation at the Grave," as one of four plays performed during their Spring season. She also placed as a quarterfinalist in the 2021 Screencraft Fellowship Competition for her screenplay, "Noir."

As the product of a Christian family, Monika’s stories revolve around the intersectionality of life's realities and the relationship with God, as told through the Black experience. Her mission is to make sure her works are written by Monika Michelle, but inspired by God. Monika is also an activist who uses her writings, such as “See My Color” and “An Ode to Black Women,” to highlight social injustices and empower her community, especially Black women and girls.

Monika Michelle is a budding screenwriter, who dreams of one day writing and producing television shows and films in her own production studio.
